Budget Car Insurance Knowledge Base
How much do you think car insurance would be, ballpark range? I'm getting my first car in a few weeks, and we're going to ass it to my parents' insurance. They have a car and a van, and I wonder what the difference would be to add my volkswagon new beetle-to-be to their plan. My goal is to budget $400 to the car each month for payments and insurance. Do i have the right idea? (payment $150-200 hopefully) That'll leave me $400 give or take spending and saving. Thanks much. Also, how much is registration in florida? Sorry, I figured that there had to be some sort of cardboard cuttout answer availible. I have looked at quotes, but geico asks for the social security number and I'm thinking "umm... no?" Besides, as I said, I'm adding onto my parents' and I don't even know what company they use. I s'pose I will deal, I'm sure it can't be more than $200 in the difference... I hope. I'm getting the car with an $8000budget, set by self using calculators to figure monthly payments. My dad has his car that he financed and it was like 2.5 percent so the 7.39% I used in all the calculators will mean an even lower payment. Anyways, thanks.
Car Accident - Any tips on Insurance would help? My husband was waiting in a line of traffic while another car turned off the road and was rear ended by a pick-up going about 50mph, he was hit from the rear and then my husband hit the car in front and so on. Here's the problem... We are in our 60s and have a very tight budget. That car - a 2003 Honda SUV was suppose to last us another 10 years. It only had 40,000 miles on it and was in perfect condition. Not a scratch (I always park away from the crowd). So, the insurance co. has said they would give us $15,000 for the tottaled car, but the new SUVs cost over $20,000. Never having an accident before, we thought that our insurance would pay the value of the car and the car at faults insurance company would pay the difference for a new car. Found out that is not the way it works. So, we have been paying the insurance company for car insurance for about 40 years without any claims and now when we need them we find that they will not replace the car. Is this right?
car recommendation , with cheap insurance for the following situation? Hi, I am going to graduate from uni soon,(this june) and am getting my first UK driving license. I am 23, and i am planning to buy a second hand car with a cheap insurance group. What car do you recommend which have a good fuel eco, cheap insurance and not too old. After year 2000 (cant afford new car). maybe about around 50mpg? my budget is about less then £2k. insurance gonna cost m e about 1.5 k i think, as this is gonna be my first car, and my first Uk driving license. I have a Malaysia driving license for about 6 years now. But dont think an insurance will be cheaper with that. So my total budget, car and insurance will be less then £3.5 k. Any good recomendations?
What would my car insurance be? I am 16, female, first time getting insurance. I am thinking about getting a convertible, would my insurance be more? If so about how much more? But black or blue, not red or yellow. One of my friends is my age/sex and hers is about $100/mo. Would mine be about the same, give or take a little? I am trying to come up w/ a budget and see what I can afford so any help will be greatly appreciated! Every "free insurance quote" site you must fill in your EXACT car type or be 18+, I have already tried that. I am in the US, in a small town (about 5000). I will add myself to my parents' insurance but i'm not sure what that is or if their car/house is the same. Thx for the help everyone!
How much can I expect to pay for car insurance in BC, Canada? I'm trying to budget for next year, and just need a rough estimate of what insurance will cost a 19 yr old female, driver training and defensive driving certificates, 2 years learners, 2 years GDL, 1.5 years "full licence" driving (total of 5.5 years driving experience), driving an older dodge turbo vehicle of some sort. Any broad range ideas?
What is a fast car that is in a relativley low insurance group? I was looking at a 1.6 Honda Civic Type S as that is insurance group 6, but they seem to be hard to come by. They are mostly 2.0 and that is group 11 which is too high as I am only 19. Budget is around £3500. Any ideas welcome. Can go over budget and put the car on finance for the right car.
whos the cheapest u found car insurance thru? ive checked all state geico progressive state farm aig 21 century liberty mutual and esurance. r there any out there that ive missed? im a student and on a very strict budget so i need the best deal possible. thanks!
i need affordable insurance on my car any suggestions? well i've been driving around for 9 months now w/out insurance. my car's a 2001 dodge neon standard model and i paid cash for it (no car note). im afraid that if im pulled over by the chp my car will get towed. im on a budget and i really need an affordable monthly premium. im 28 yrs old i got my driving license at 26 yrs old then got 2 tickets like 2 months later. one ticket was a failure to yield on a right turn w/ a red light and as a result i caused an accident but there was no bodily harm or property damage to the other driver only to my car it was totaled and i wasn't harmed. i recently was pulled over and given a speeding ticket too. what is the difference in full vs. liability insurance? i do know that liability is cheaper. which should i consider? also does anyone know of any insurance co. that don't require a huge down payment to start?and would insure my car w/out a huge monthly premium?
If I hire a car in the UK, do I need to buy extra insurance? Any other hidden charges? I am thinking of hiring a car with a budget rental firm such as Thrifty. If I do so, do I need to buy any extra insurance? Someone told me that these hire firms only provide you with very basic insurance, so that if you were to have an accident and it was your fault, you wouldn't be covered..... is this true? Also, I've had a look on their website, and they seem to charge £28 a day for car hire. This seems quite cheap - are there any other hidden costs to be aware of?
OMG!! first car insurance how high!!! any advice???? plz read? the lowest quote if gotten for a car was lyk 2500 per year for a fiesta ive tryed an even lower cc car now nissan micra but thats still lyk 2700 per year the cars only gonna be worth £500 any good insurance companies for first time drivers? my friend mensioned he got a quote for an estate car for 1000 coz the boy racers dont have them is that true and what sort of car would that be im setting my total budget to £2500 for car insurance n tax is tht unrealistic? its alot of money though seen as though passing is gonna cost 700 upwards ur thoughts or advice plz
Why would an insurance company not give you your ,no-claims bonus, if you change your insurance company? BUDGET car insurance is really palying with us. We purchased a car on 25 April 2008, and decided to move to a better deal with a different company since that policy was over, but the new insurance requested the no claims bonus proff from the previous company, and now everytime we call up Budget, atleast 3 with few weeks apart, they are saying its has been posted to us. Are they just telling us porkies or does a postman really take this long? Are there any 'Head' bodies I can take this matter to as It is costing us more for not providing with the proof?
Assuming you would like to purchase a new car next year, develop a personal budget for yourself or a friend fo Assuming you would like to purchase a new car next year, develop a personal budget for yourself or a friend for this year. Make sure to include a savings plan to save enough for a down payment, taxes, license, and insurance. Discuss the situations that might derail the budget along with a plan for you to deal with these issues. Disregard this question, my daughter thinks she can get the answers. I want her to learn from scratch. SORRY.
help finding a car insurance quote? I'm doing a project for my economics class where I have to pretend to be a 22 year old living on my own and make a monthly budget for myself. I have to find a car insurance and health insurance quote, but everywhere I search asks for personal information and has to search through my records and credit to give me the right quote. I'm only 17 so they wouldn't find anything on me. I need it for a 22 year old making 27,000 a year. Please help me! 10 points to the best answer :)
Why do libs think health care is a right? What next, car insurance? How about free food for everyone? Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of 'Free' Health Care Every new 'right' the U.S. government has promised has turned into a massively expensive failure, yet the media continue to cheer supporters of tax-funded programs. Americans are obsessed with rights. We always have been. But the concept of rights our forefathers laid out in the Declaration of Independence has changed dramatically. Those rights – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – were acknowledged to come from the Almighty, given equally to all people. Today’s rights come from Almighty Government. Health care is the newest “right.” From presidential candidates’ universal plans to the return of HillaryCare to Michael Moore’s movie “Sicko,” it’s all over the media. Calling it a “right” is an emotional argument advanced by those who want others to pay for their health care. They bring out the children and ask whether anyone can deny them the “basic human right” of health care – but don’t bother with the evidence showing how health care in this country would be harmed by government control. A look at other modern “rights” might give us a clue about how well a new system would work. These rights started out as privileges, among them education and a paid retirement. Now education is not only considered a right, it’s a mandate. How well has it worked? American students attend school at least until their teen years, but 15-year-olds ranked 24th out of 29 countries in aptitude for “real-life math problems,” according to The Washington Post. Literacy surveys suggest one in five American adults is functionally illiterate. And taxpayers keep shelling out money to fund the system. Americans also cherish the right to retire – but we expect to be supported in our old age. Younger workers and employers are forced to support retirees, funding another right. And how well has that worked? The poorly designed, outdated Social Security system is disintegrating rapidly as the number of retirees balloons. But once you’ve established a right, it’s difficult to take it away. The government, which promises such rights, must go to its sugar daddy – taxpayers – to keep the rights coming. We’re already well on our way toward the health care right/mandate. Want to be more like Canada? It’s not that far off. Cato’s Michael Cannon has pointed out that third parties in America pay 86 cents of every dollar of our health care – about the same as Canada’s socialized system. What we – or rather, those third parties – pay for health care is already determined by the government as well. Emory University medical professor Robert Swerlick has noted that “the pricing of medical care in this country is either directly or indirectly dictated by Medicare.” This market meddling even causes doctor shortages, he says, in needed areas of specialty. Prescription drugs are already considered a right, thanks to political moves like the Medicare drug benefit and massive media support. A Business & Media Institute study found broadcast journalists treating prescription drugs as though they grew on trees. Overall, the coverage supported the idea that medications should magically be available to everyone at far lower costs. Of course, the magic behind new “rights” is your money. Cannon and fellow Cato expert Michael Tanner explained problems with tax-funded care in their book “Healthy Competition: What’s Holding Back Health Care and How to Free It.” If health care is guaranteed to everyone, how much does everyone get? Who decides who receives what, and how would the care be administered? What happens if everyone wants the most expensive treatment available? “With the wide variety of medical tests and treatments that consumers may claim as their right, someone at some point must decide where the right to health care ends, lest the nation be bankrupted,” they wrote. We’re well on our way toward that as well. Our “rights” to Social Security and Medicare devour about 40 percent of the federal budget. State and local property tax revenue, which normally funds education, mushroomed about 35 percent between 2000 and 2005, according to the Tax Foundation. We can’t afford any more “rights” like that. But the left says tax-funded care is right for the children. Meanwhile, what becomes of them? They’re growing up in an America where the “rights” mentality is deeply ingrained, and the media continue to feed them with it. When the children come of age, perhaps they’ll want the right to a job. They won’t remember that France already tested that idea for us, and it led to high unemployment and rioting. Perhaps they’ll guarantee Disney vacations for all families and force childless Americans to pay for it. “The pursuit of” will conveniently fade away as they look to government to guarantee happiness. They will know less and less of a true right – liberty – and have no idea where it comes from.
First timer buying Car Insurance? It will be my first time buying car insurance next month and I am looking to get any advice if possible. I am in the Toronto area and I'm on a budget! What kind of things should I look out for other than price? I'm not even sure what to ask, so ANY advice is helpful -- and even more helpful if you can list some of the cheaper ones!
Can I get a discount in my car insurance? I use to live abroad and currently I don't have a full UK Driving license; nevertheless, now I am in the process of getting one along with a car and to budgeting properly I need to know how much, roughly, I am going to pay. The Main Issue is that I have been a driver for more than 15 years driving many types of cars in many weathers, I never made a claim and yet It seem that if a get a UK license I would be considered a new driver, thus paying sky high prices for my insurance. In other words what I'd like to know is: is it possible for the insurance company to take into consideration my prior experience abroad and what I have to do for them to do so? Thanks in advance for your answers.
How do you budget? I would like to know how you handle your budget? Do you set a monthly budget and live to the budget? Do you set a yearly budget including things like car insurance, liscence plates, back to school and Christmas? Just curious to what level of detail the general population manages their finances. Thank you.

What % of my budget should health insurance be? Me and my bf are trying to figure out if we have enough money to move out on our own. We are full time students. Once we get married we will be making about 26000 a year after tuition and books. We can get an appartment for about 600-700 in our area, no car payments, car insurance will be 150 to cover both of our cars...what i'm not sure about is the health insurance and food costs...does it sound like we have enough to scrape by on our own? Maybe I should have worded my question differently because you seem to have the wrong idea. We aren't living together yet. I said "after we get married." Thanks for the answer tho :) and also we aren't having sex till marriage. that's a pretty good way to prevent pregnancy, right?

CAR INSURANCE - who would YOU recommend? i know that Prudential are absolute bo!!ocks, so who IS any good? Would like opinions on the followign companies specifically as they've given the best quotes (although any other advice is welcome): Dial Direct, Premier, Budget, Yes, Post Office. If you know where their call centres are then that'd be helpful too! Am trying to avoid overseas customer services, too stressful! :)
how much is car and home insurance? sorry this is kinda long.. but... im doing a project for economics class. and we have to figure out our future, like make a resume and a job app a cover letter, and all this other stuff after we picked a career we are interested in doing with our lives. so, we have to figure out our budget like housing stuff, housing bills, transportation like car insurance and car payment. investing and miscelaneous like cell phone bills internet and entertainment to name a few.. after this. we take our total monthly net pay, and subtract our total monthly expenses and thats our remaining income just for whatever. but i am having trouble finding house insurance, and car insurance. all i am getting from searching is quotes, and i dont need that.. i jus need a straight up dollar amount. if anyone can help.. that would be great.. thanks. the career i have is a computer software engineer, applications.. my gross salary is 69,857 this is the 2nd time im taking the class.. i failed it the first time,, and if i dont pass it this time i fail and i dont graduate.. which is embarrassing.. but. this project pretty much determines my life. and ive spent the last 8 1/2 hours working on it.. and i will update you with the grade i get. as soon as i get it back.. though its not due till the 21st this month
Is a car dealership allowed to let you drive off the lot with liability insurance? I am in quite a situation, I financed a 2004 Ford Mustang 40th Anniversary Edition car from a local car dealership in South Carolina. When I got my loan they told me my payment would be 261.00, I told them I wasn't familiar with what sort of insurance I needed and they offered to set it up for me. They called Geico and then told me my insurance would be 150 a month, I got out a pen and added 261 and 150 and decided to get the car because it fit into my budget. 4-5 months later I get a letter from the bank telling me I have the wrong insurance and I need full coverage which will cost me about 520 a month instead of 150. I can't afford that insurance and the lowest quote I can get is for 380 which is still to much. My question is, is this a matter I could get a lawyer and sue over? My credit is completely destroyed now because I can't afford the car / insurance so I can't just trade it in and get a new car financed. I also have no one to co-sign for me. 10pts to most helpful ans.
My car insurance company are trying to charge more for a smaller car, what do I do? They want to charge £70 if I cancel my contract with them, if I phone they put me through to S. Africans and English no longer deal with those in England! They are Budget, only what they are trying to charge isn't budgeting it's ripping me off. I had a larger car a Citroen & bought a Ford Fiesta (smaller) but they want more money in installments per year. I am tired I have tried sorting it for over an hour. Now my cars uninsured because I cannot believe that they are trying to charge me more! How do I get out of this situation without giving them money for nothing? The great thing abt them is - i get breakdown cover & I am told I pay £100 excess per annum-but apparently other people pay more!
Insurance then car? I'm confused, I want to know what would be the best car to get cheap insurance on it. I'm a 20yr old employed woman. I don't care what car I get (I know, it's tragic) as long as it gets me the chepeast insurance. Which car should I buy? (I have a budget of £2000 ish)
How do you set up a budget and stick to it? In this crazy world (don't lecture me unless you're rich) every penny truly does count, what with rent, car payment, car insurance, phone bill, excise tax, cable, and other amentities.......not including student loans or even credit card bills, even making considerable average or decent salary full time doesn't ensure you'll have much to save or to use as discrectionary. I want to budget, only thing is I get paid only twice a month. I want to get a part time job but what places will allow a 27 year old to work 15 hours per week? Don't say restaurant.... I work hard at my full time job......so no patronizing responses from you "I grew up fast when I was 16" crap. Thank you.
Can someone answer these questions about their budget? I need someone who works full time to answer. My economy teacher wants me to interview people. I just need to know how much you spend each month on the following: Housing Food Clothing Utilities Medical insurance Auto insurance Car payment what other expenses you have during the year that would be important to include in a budget Thanks. I don't need any personal info like names. Just numbers will be fine :)

I dont need brand new but im trying to find something low on miles. any help with cars which are lower on insurance and with my budget... thanks! I have a 2000 Ford focus, but I dont want to put more money into the car

Need a loan for college, no credit, and a strict budget? Here is the deal. I am 18. Just graduated from high school. I am engaged. Fiance makes 800 every two weeks. I have no co-signer and no credit whatsoever. I plan on going to college and becoming a radiologist. I do plan on getting a job but the school I am going to plans your school schedule for you as I will be on a career plan and getting good work practice and experience, which limits my jobs to either waitering or any retail that will work with school hours. Here is how our budget goes: $350 for both of our car insurances $270 for his student loans $150 for cell phones (which we need as I do have an older unrealable car and he needs his for work) $300 for his car payment (I own mine completely) and we need to get a place to live fast There are condos that we are looking into and the mortgage will be about $300 monthly There will also be water and electricity, we have talked it over and we both can budget as good as we can with that. Are there any good loans for me? I will be going to Montgomery Community College so it won't be too exspensive but I might also need a bit of the loan here and there if we get behind. I plan on paying off these loans as quickly as I can right after I start my career. We will continue living in the budget and I will use most of my income to pay them off as quickly as it is possible. The idea of student loan and debt scares me. I hate that it comes to this, but we I need to start college this spring. I am very firm on making sure I do this. I do not want to not be able to go to college even for a semester (it will be two full years of college). I am understanding that I will be study very hard, working, and getting little sleep but I think it will be well worth it in the end. I need as much advise as I can get. And I am very terrified of getting a loan and making a mistake. Please help!
How do you make a budget on very little paycheck, and live happy with nothing? I earn a very small paycheck and work very hard all week long and even pull overtime when I can. The problem is I have rent, car, insurance, and utilities. Sometimes, if it wasnt for my mother, I wouldn't eat. I have tried budgetting, but something always happens and pushes me right back to where i began. How do I overcome this?
fiat stilo - Is it a good second hand car? We are buying a second hand car. Our budget is £4500-5000. Since we want to buy only from authorised dealers, honda/VW/Ford are out of question. This is out 1st car, so insurance is high. Dont want to spend a lot. We will use it for city driving and will not be going long drives very often. We are getting a 2003 fiat stilo for £4700. It has done 33000 miles and is quite good. It is 1.8, 16V 5door, manual - petrol The service history etc is all in place. Has anyone got any inputs or any other options we can look at? Shilpi
How much extra money should be in my living budget? Hi, I want to move, but I don't make a lot of money. I make 2200 bucks a month. I was approved for a $650 a month mortgage which allows me to afford a small home in my area. Other bills I'm thinking are the following Utilities: 200 Cable/internet/phone: 150 Food 2 people: 500 Drs/Medicine: 100 Car Gas: 200 Car Insurance: 100 Total bills 1900 Total income 2200 That gives me just 300 breathing room and I haven't counted anything for fun or savings or emergencies. I have a $3000 unused credit card and $15000 in the bank. Would you move into this situation? How tight is too tight? I don't want to touch my savings because once its gone its gone, and I don't want to use my credit card except to pay it off each month. Please help. I want to move, but I'm scared that I don't have a lot of free cash. I have 6 months expenses in the banks and the property taxes are already figured in the mtg payment.
see if you can make a budget on minimum wage? first off you have to list rent, food, car insurance, utilities(water, gas, electric)telephone, car payment, and gasoline. you must use a "40 hr work week"(yes I know you dont get 40 when you make min. wage). also you have to use current prices for your area in the budget. i.e. state wages, housing costs etc. if you actually make this budget work I will be completely shocked.
What is the best way to pay for college when you have many expenses, like a high car note and insurance? I just got stuck in a 5 year contract with a new Hyundai I got to help me get out of an emergency situation I had, and I feel like now I can't pay for school and all my goals have been set back because I now have this ridiculously high financial obligation :( I'm very inexperienced, so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I was trying to calculate what kind of money and time I would have to budget if I were to go to school with a part time job just to pay my car loan down, and it didn't look too good at all :'( Any suggestions? I was thinking voluntary repossession, but that would hit my credit hard and I would probably never be able to get financed on another loan for a very, very long time. I'm not familiar with how school loans work, or if I could just get school loans that could pay for my expenses and my school, but I don't know how that works or if that would be a good idea...
Which car is better? I am looking for a new car and would like a little help. I would like some information and opinions on the 3 cars I am considering. I am considering a Ford Mustang 96-02 models, the Ford Probe, and a Honda Civic from the 95-04 models. I would like information conserning gas mileage and overall quality of the cars. Moving to from Canada to Chicago, need budget help? I might be moving my wife, toddler twins and new baby to Illinois and I need to know if we can survive on my single income. Budget - house purchase?? Looking to buy my first house, I have one in mind, I've calculated a rough estimate of a payment online, and put together a budget to see if I can afford everything before I go to the bank. Those of you that own a house, look at my list and see if I've missed anything. The house has had a lot of work done (carpet, shingles, plumbing, cabinets, sink/stool, furnace) so I don't see a lot of repairs coming up. Thanks! Mortgage Groceries Clothing Car Gas/Maint Electric Gas Sewer/Water/Garbage TV/Internet/Phone Church Other/Misc Car Insurance House Insurance When I factor the above expenses with my income, I have 12% left over, or $225.92. All advice is appreciated!!!! Thanks!
I need help! Budget wise.....? I have never really had money in my life to deal with til this past year when i finally got a job and married the man of my dreams. Well today i realized that i went way overboard buying christmas presents. I will be overdrawn if i don't put money in the bank early enough tomorrow. (yeah im putting the money in there right away) but this is where i need help with. I don't want my husband to start hating me. Its not that i do this on purpose. I just need to learn how to budget and stop buying things i really don't need for now. Im trying to make a list of things that i need like food, shelter, medicine(asthmatic)etc. For now the only bills my husband and i pay are the car insurance and cellphone bills. Is there anywhere that i can make a budget at or help me make one. I really want to stop this or im just going to surrender money all at once and let my husband deal with it all. I don't want it getting in the way of my marriage with him(not that it is but if i keep it up it might) Thanks.
Is this budget logical? I sat down and started to attempt to write out a budget. This is my first time trying to work out a solid budget - I've never been able to really wrap my mind around how it works. I'm looking for any input or advice. It's worth noting that my long term 6 month goal is to come up with enough money ($3,000) to get a decent vehicle, pay down some of my debt on my credit report and start a small savings. $1100 Mortgage $140 heating gas $70 Electric $165 cable, internet and phone $170 cell phone $100 car insurance $100 collection $300 car gas $100 misc. $45 diapers $40 cleaning supplies $800 food ( a family of 6) ------- $3090 We have $3500 employment income and $612 supplemental income which is $4112 monthly. So ... is it possible to achieve my goals within 6-7 months on that budget or would you advise cutting back more?
Ticketed for no Insurance - What now? I just got a ticket for having no auto insurance. I told the officer I'm a single mother on a very limited budget since I am raising 2 kids and only working part-time. The officer told me to check the middle box on the ticket, and get insurance, then take the proof of insurance to the court and then the court will dismiss the charges. Is this true? I just bought car insurance and now I just need to proove I now have it? Any other advice to have this dismissed? BTW: I have a very clean record and spotless 5 yr drivers abstract. I live in Washington, where your required to have auto insurance.
Looking for websites that show you how to budget?? This seems to be a recurring fight with my fiancé. I need to show him how to budget. I have budget myself for years and I owned a home by myself before meeting him. He on the other hand lived in an apartment as as long as he made the rent and had $20 for electricity, he party the rest of his money away. He need his car fixed and new work boots so he charged about $1,000 on my credit card- OK, rough but it was for stuff he had to have. His car has to be fixed so he can get to work and his work boots fell apart- so he had to have new ones. Then I find out he went to a bar with a friend and charged $40.00 and then he played the lottery at work and owed someone $20.......when he's already spend $300 in Vegas because he was out there on a conference and it just keeps going on. And he doesn't understand that he priority and values are out of order. He thinks we have this never ending well of money because we have two salaries but we are trying to fix up a house and pay for a wedding. He's solution to this problem was for me to get lower cover on my car insurance so he doesn't have to change his habits. When I tell him the heating bill is $350 for this month- he solution is to turn off the heat and we'll just wear coats inside the house so he doesn't have to stop going to the bar. I need websites and books that can help me explain and show him how to budget. I need "proof" to show him how people budget money. Any links or website or suggestion are greatly appreciated.
